    He was prevented from doing just that following his release by Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023. Lingard spent several months as a free agent, enduring failed trial spells at West Ham and Al-Ettifaq – while nothing came of links to teams in MLS and Ligue 1 – before finally landing a contract in the Far East.
